Ulverston is a market town in the South Lakeland area. The Ulverston town council describes the origins as far back as 1086! “Ulverston was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Ulvrestun, deriving from an Old Norse family name Úlfarr meaning ‘wolf warrior’ and tun meaning ‘farm’ or ‘homestead’. This gives rise to the presence of a wolf on the town’s coat of arms.”
I have been cleaning and restoring tile, stone and wood flooring in Ulverston for more than 5 years. Always a treat to work there with the familiar Hoad monument towering above the town.
